#IASA2017: meet our new Domestic Director of Insurance Solutions Group, part 2

In part 1 of this series, I talked with Charlie Hanna, Hyland’s new domestic director of insurance, about his career and new role.

In this post, we dive into the importance of insurance conferences like IASA as well as future trends for the industry.

1. How many IASA shows have you attended in your career?

Wow, it’s hard to remember them all. I’d say roughly 10 throughout my career.

2. If you’re in the insurance industry, why is attending this show important?

I think many of the insurance conferences offer great opportunities for insurers, vendors, media and analysts to come together to talk about the strategic direction of the industry. Not only are there many educational sessions, but networking opportunities to see where peers and competitors are and what they are doing.

If you want to keep up with the pace of change happening in the industry, attending these shows is imperative.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

It seems like every year our team attends IASA, it gets better and better. This year, we’re involved in many different activities, including the Vendor Connect Tours, after-hours networking events and meeting with different industry analysts and media.

The past 12 months have been very exciting for our team because insurers see our solutions as a necessary part of their digital transformation and modernization projects. Last year, we brought on 44 new insurance customers, bringing our global insurance customer count to more than 600.

But as with every conference, I’m most looking forward to speaking with attendees to hear about their stories, problems and technology needs and helping to take their business to the next level.

4. Talk about the technology evolution you’ve seen in your career.

It doesn’t seem like that long ago, we were always talking about paper, faxes and email. Today, insurance organizations have a fire under them to make changes because of mobile technology and how society has changed its preferences regarding how people interact with insurers.

In order to survive these changes, insurers need to shift their business models. Because of that, we’re having some of the best conversations we’ve ever had.

5. What’s next?

It’s hard to predict the next big thing. Right now, we’re in the middle of the InsurTech era, which isn’t slowing down any time soon and will continue to bring huge changes that impact the industry. But appropriately managing information in the most secure, efficient and effective way is always going to be important and will continue to take priority.

In order to best serve customers, insurers need the whole picture. That’s where we come in, integrating with core systems to provide an all-encompassing view of a customer and their data to better serve them.

If you’d like to hear more about Hyland’s insurance solutions and future strategy from Charlie, stop by booth #921 at IASA. We’d love to hear from you!
