#IASA2017: meet our new Domestic Director of Insurance Solutions Group, part 1

Looking at the calendar, it’s hard to believe it’s already June. Every year at this time, I find myself asking how the last five months have flown by so quickly.

Then I look back and see some of the amazing things that have happened at Hyland, including a campus expansion project, a new cloud document management product, continued industry growth and being named a Leader within the enterprise content management (ECM) industry – and I realize that time flies quickly when you’re busy. Like, really busy.

That said, May and June tend to be the kick-start of conference season for me, starting with #IASA2017. I’m particularly excited to attend the show this year, not only to reap the benefits of the educational sessions and hear the latest trends within the industry, but also to introduce our new Domestic Director of Insurance Solutions Group, Charlie Hanna.

Meet Charlie

While Charlie is no newbie to the insurance industry, formerly one of Hyland’s insurance Account Managers, his new role gives him a different perspective to direct Hyland’s insurance sales strategy. I was able to sit down with him pre-show to discuss his background, new role and what he’s most excited for in the next phase of Hyland’s insurance solutions.

1. Tell me a little about your background.

I have spent almost my entire career within the insurance industry. After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Communications, I started my career at a top-rated brokerage firm.

After a few years in the field, I joined Hyland as an Account Director within the insurance solutions group, promoting its leading enterprise content management (ECM) solution, OnBase, to the market. I advanced through my career at Hyland, working next as the Insurance and Financial Services Manager for Europe and Africa. After a brief stint elsewhere, I returned as an Account Executive and haven’t looked back.

2. What ultimately drove you to seek a career in insurance?

You can say I was literally born into it. My mother was a commercial high-risk transportation underwriter. Throughout my life, I remember having a keen awareness about insurance and its importance within the different aspects of our lives.

Looking back, I have a vivid memory from a family trip to a local amusement park. My mother and I were talking about one of the rollercoasters at the park and rather than get in line to ride it, we discussed the risk it takes to insure it. The rest is history.

3. What has been your favorite part of working on the insurance team at Hyland?

Throughout my career at Hyland, it’s been rare to have a conversation with an insurer and not find a way that our insurance software solutions can make them better at what they do.

That’s the powerful part of what we do and the solutions we deliver. They have the ability to completely transform organizations to make them better, and it’s been amazing to see that transformation at the insurance organizations I’ve been fortunate enough to work with.

4. What are you most excited for in your new role?

It’s rewarding to see all the fruits of your labor come to fruition. In this next step of my career, though I won’t be interacting directly with customers on a daily basis like before, I’ll become more involved in the strategic direction of product for the industry, working closely with our development teams to discuss new insurance software solutions the industry needs.

I’ll also get the opportunity to work closely with our Account Managers and partners, sharing my experiences and providing best practices to be successful in their roles.
