Apply now for the spring 2017 Hy-Tech Club!
Hyland’s Hy-Tech Club for students in grades 7 through 12 has been around since fall 2014. Since then, we’ve seen dramatic growth in both the amount of students who apply as well as the amount of information we’re able to teach them.
To make the program even more valuable for students, we’re changing a couple of things up for spring 2017. Here’s what’s new:
- There are two different applications for this semester
- We will split the club between Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in order to accommodate more students
We’re asking students to complete all pieces of the application by Wednesday, January 18, 2017. We’ll let everyone know whether they were accepted or not on January 25.
The first meetings of the semester will begin the week of February 7, 2017. The semester typically runs for 12 weeks, which means it will wrap up in the beginning of May. Each meeting will kick off with dinner, followed by two and a half hours of learning (5 – 7:30 p.m.).
The students who get the most out of the club are the ones who really want to learn, so we want to make sure each student completes the application in his or her own words. If you are a parent, please make sure your child is the one who fills out the application.
Why attend Hy-Tech Club?
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s what a former attendee had to say:
The most interesting things would probably be the robotics and decoding nights from the summer classes, and learning HTML because it helped me learn the other languages taught at the Hy-Tech Club. I definitely enjoyed the dinner talks and presentations and topics the Hyland employees put together.
I also liked the decoding and cryptography classes. The whole aspect of learning how to “crack codes” is a lot of fun, although Morse code is difficult at first. Both classes mixed education and fun in a successful matter. Robotics was really interesting, and the class about building a computer was easier than I thought it would be, but I still had fun.
