3 ways simple tools solve complex conundrums

Hyland-internships

A few months ago, the most embarrassing thing happened on the way through the airport. I had to open my suitcase to stash some lotion from my carry-on, and as I unzipped the zipper—and the lid sprang up from its constraints—everyone saw.

Saw my disheveled suitcase…because…I am a terrible packer.

It took a long time for me to admit this because organization is one of the things that I think about ALL THE TIME. I make lists. I use organizers for my drawers, refrigerator, closet, car. I even spent three months last winter reworking the shelves in my basement.

But I’ve yet to conquer the streamlined pack. So I decided to seek advice from my friends and family who travel frequently in order to get this thing under control. And you know what their overwhelming advice was?

Buy a packing organizer.

Who knew that there was a tool available that could make years of struggle dissipate with a few clicks, zips and stashes? So simple. With a packing organizer, my suitcase not only starts off organized, but STAYS organized throughout my trip, despite having to add other items or move things around. Most importantly, I can always find what I need when I need it.

Several of the folks who helped me – mentors, if you will – are traveling yet again this week. They’re at the Venetian in Las Vegas for Hyland’s annual user conference—CommunityLIVE. It’s the most fantastic place to be every September if you are an OnBase user (or would like to be one!).

They’ve shared with me some of the highlights of the show, including the debut of the most innovative ECM planning tool on the planet: My OnBase Planner.

Organizing your technology
My OnBase Planner allows anyone in the OnBase Community to keep a customized view of their existing and impending enterprise technology solutions. From a single interface, you can see the OnBase solutions you already own, research all available solutions, and add them to a multi-year planning timeline roadmap. With this great tool, you keep everything organized and available and shareable as you research, communicate, project manage and implement your IT vision.

Also, it’s free.

And, like most tools that are simple but revolutionary, My OnBase Planner encompasses the three most important requirements of a successful tool: Balance, fit and finish:

1. Balance

It is designed to accommodate multiple scenarios. You can plot out strategies for multiple departments, multiple technology initiatives or varying levels of detail. It is also flexible, allowing you to add notes regarding other technology initiatives, like those involving your ERP, CRM, SIS or other enterprise systems to the roadmap.

Additionally, you can export your roadmaps to .pdf or the printer to easily distribute as necessary.

2. Fit

It addresses the needs of a specific audience: You, the OnBase professional. But further, it addresses the specific needs of organizations in Healthcare, Higher Education, Finance, Government, Insurance and more. It also serves specific departments, like HR, AP and AR, to name a few.

3. Finish

It results in a best-in-class strategy from planning to implementation to outcome. This tool is built upon the mindshare of 20 years and thousands of individuals with expertise in enterprise content management (ECM), industries across the globe and enterprise technology. Every day, the people designing, testing, implementing and improving the solutions available in My OnBase Planner hone these solutions to a Gold Standard.

And, as I delightfully discovered with my packing organizer, the more you use it, the better life becomes.
