HEUG Alliance 2014: a study of outliers
It’s time to get ready for #HEUG #Alliance14 and as always, I am looking forward to attending. It’s a pleasure to be among the caliber of schools using the PeopleSoft solution to provide top notch student service and ready their institutions for the higher education of the future.
As I prepared to go, I took a sneak peak at our opening keynote speaker, Shawn Achor. He’ll talk about “positive psychology” and the connection between happiness and success. If you’re like me, your initial reaction is probably to wonder why talk about happiness when the conference is a deep dive into technology? How will happiness really help us?
So, I found his TEDx talk – take a look, I think you’ll find him quite funny but also very enlightening. With his roots at Harvard, he talks about studying those who fall outside the normal curves that researchers expect to see. His studies focus on what there is to learn from those who are ‘outliers’ and how those people can be the key to raising the status quo and the start to more successful schools and organizations.
As I watched, this study of outliers clicked with me. Many of our customers have become the best kind of outliers – they have unlocked secrets to making PeopleSoft work better or student service stronger or employees happier. They’ve integrated enterprise content management with PeopleSoft to make their business processes smarter. And when you work with smarter business processes, you’ll find that you can leverage your PeopleSoft investment even more. As your business processes become smarter, PeopleSoft does, too – because we’ve found over and over that the footprint of a business process is larger than the footprint of the ERP.
The good news is that our customers our willing to share their secrets. Stop by our OnBase booth #526 or check out at these presentations:
CIO Panel: Evolving Departmental Success into Enterprise Strategies
Tuesday, March 11, 1:45-2:45 p.m., Studio A, Alliance Session #33880
Marvel at the Magic with Real-time Data & Document Checklists in PeopleSoft

In a way, studying the ‘outliers’ is what this conference is all about. Those presenting, throughout the agenda on Sunday through Wednesday, have unlocked secrets and they are willing to share them with us. Armed with this new information, we’ll all leave motivated to go back and bring positive change to our campus, to our systems and to our people.
