What is a physical therapist doing at Hyland?

I hear the question in my headline frequently, ever since I joined the industry leader in enterprise content management (ECM). The simple answer, I was a customer seeking a solution.

I was working in skilled nursing facilities, dealing with inefficiencies and massive paper trails when receiving referrals and medical records from more than 60 different hospitals across my organization’s care centers. It didn’t make sense that we were printing three to five copies of referrals prior to the admission for review. Especially when we were attempting to go paperless with our EMR.

After doing some research, I found OnBase, which could provide the capture, secure storage and retrieval I knew the organization needed – all in one central repository for any document or file that was not native to the EMR.

Let your work flow

I wanted to create a preadmission workflow solution to automate the business processes associated with insurance verification, preauthorization and reviewing the patient’s medical record prior to admission. Capturing the documents electronically and making them easily accessible from any electronic device would decrease the number of printed copies and eliminate the need to scan these records into the EMR.

With workflow automation, we could create accountability. This would be the catalyst to allow the correct people to make more informed and timely business and clinical decisions.

We all know how important it is to quickly communicate with our referral sources. Imagine if you were able to empower more efficient communications to improve relationships with your referral sources and increase your census by one additional patient per week in each facility.

OnBase would let us do that.

Down the rabbit hole

Fast-forward a few years and now, I am a Hylander. And I’m excited to see up close how much further Hyland goes beyond that initial solution. The core functions of OnBase are scalable to any department, becoming the central repository for the entire enterprise.

But that is only the tip of the iceberg. I’ve since learned that OnBase has more than 300 modules available to configure purpose-built solutions specific to meet the needs of your enterprise. We offer things like medical records management solutions, healthcare credentialing solutions, contract management solutions, patient window and revenue cycle management solutions, to name a few.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I started looking for a way to simply stop printing referrals!
