Live from #HIMSS16: Paperless registration helps NYU Langone Hospital achieve HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7

During HIMSS16, another hospital joined the ranks of the elite HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 organizations – NYU Langone Medical Center.

At the show, I had a chance to meet with Nader Mherabi, senior vice president and vice dean, as well as chief information officer at NYU Langone Medical Center (a Hyland partner). After thoroughly congratulating Nader and his team, I was impressed to hear some of the ways they managed to earn the prestigious HIMSS Stage 7 designation.

It all starts with optimizing registration

Last summer, we worked with Nader to create a paperless registration process. This was an exciting project that required collaboration with NYU and Samsung to complete. The goal was to make registration easier for patients and administrators while saving time and resources.

Talking with Nader, he stated that paperless registration was a key component in achieving this recognition. I couldn’t help but feel honored and proud to help one of our customer-partners achieve such a monumental feat.

This year, I had several other conversations at HIMSS that revolved around our product development and roadmap. Our philosophy never changes – our customers drive our innovation and development. This is especially true when it comes to health information management. As an industry analyst told me during the show, if you listen to your customers, good things will inevitably happen.

With more than 20 years of healthcare technology and operations leadership experience, Susan deCathelineau is a leader in providing management and consultant services for Health Information Management, Revenue Cycle and Electronic Medical Record strategies. Most notably, she was responsible for the successful enterprise-wide OnBase implementation at Allina Health, which included the integration with the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) initiative. In her current role at Hyland, deCathelineau is responsible for developing and implementing a global strategic vision, to ensure that OnBase Healthcare solutions and services earn customer loyalty and deliver operational excellence. Prior to joining Hyland in 2006, deCathelineau was director of corporate information services at Allina Health System and vice president of product management at QuadraMed. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health information management from the College of St. Scholastica, and completed her master’s degree in health services administration at the College of St. Francis. She is currently Hyland’s vice president for global healthcare sales and services.
