Hyland’s Spring Hy-Tech Club registration is open: Apply now!
Are you a student interested in computer programming? If you are, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
I’m excited to announce that we’re now accepting applications for our Spring Hy-Tech Club. If you’re looking to kick-start or start planning your career – even at a young age – now is the time.
In 2020, there will be 1.4 million computing jobs available, according to employment studies. However, there will only be 400,000 computer science students looking to fill those jobs.
That’s 1 million more jobs than students available!
Encouraging high-tech education
Obviously, we see a huge educational gap that we can help close. As Hyland continues to grow as a company, we will need to continue hiring skilled individuals for our technical positions. If we don’t do our part to help students down paths in computer science, this gap means – among other things – we might have trouble filling those roles.
How can we help fix that problem?
As the largest software company in the area with hundreds of technical employees, Hyland has a huge opportunity to give back to the community and make an impact on the younger generation. If we start exposing students to the different opportunities within computer science at an early age, we can work toward closing the computer science gap.
That’s why we developed the Hy-Tech Programs. The programs include Hy-Tech Camps, Innovation Showdowns, Hy-Tech Clubs, shadowing and field trip opportunities and classroom presentations.
About Hy-Tech Club
The Spring Hy-Tech Club will run from February through May and there will be 12 total meetings. There is an application process all students must go through – even students who have been in our programs before.
The club is free and we even feed you before we start teaching!
Based on their levels of experience, we will split students into three groups: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Here’s what the groups look like:
- The Intermediate class will teach students about PHP and MySQL.
- The Advanced class is new and will cover the Java programming language this semester. Students are split into groups based on experience listed on their application and a short programming assessment given at the first meeting of the semester.
Through our Hy-Tech Clubs, we aim to prepare students for success with knowledge and information that will help them in a future with computer programming.
But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what a previous Hy-Tech Club member had to say:
“I loved the structured approach to learning how to code. Over the years, I taught myself what I needed to know, so my knowledge was spotty.”
– Max, grade 10
To apply, complete the three-page application by Friday, January 22, 2016. Don’t hesitate, as limited spots are available.
The Spring Hy-Tech Club will take place at Hyland’s Building 3, 28105 Clemens Road, Westlake, Ohio. Students will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and must provide their own transportation.
