4 reasons why Hyland is rated as a “Great Place to Work”
With more tech startups emerging each day, it can be challenging for both new and experienced job seekers to find the perfect fit. Most people think that tech booms only happen in Silicon Valley at large tech companies like Google and Salesforce, but Great Rated’s latest technology workplace review survey proves otherwise.
Great Rated has just announced “People’s Picks: 20 Great Workplaces in Technology,” a list of 20 top-rated organizations to work for in the technology industry. It’s decided entirely by employee feedback – and Hyland, creator of OnBase, is No. 6 on the large companies list! This is a huge accolade for our organization and we’re thrilled to be included on the list.
Throughout our history we’ve been known locally as a “cool place to work,” with members of the community noting our slides, laid back culture and on-site day care center (to name just a few perks). While these amenities are great, I believe it’s our dedication to helping employees find work-life balance and define the right career path that fosters hard-working employees who love their jobs – and love bragging to others about their company. That’s why we also continue to be recognized nationally as a great place to work.
As the Employee Engagement Manager, I lead Hyland’s effort to make sure our employees are happy, healthy and engaged. I get to work with employees to understand their needs and how to best create an environment where they can thrive. With 1,700 employees globally that can be tough at times, but it’s worthwhile when we get feedback and recognition as a top technology company nationally, based directly on our employees’ feedback.
So, what does it take to become a top tech company? Here are some of my insights:
1. Listen to your employees.
Take the time to understand their roles and needs. The tech industry is a fast-paced environment where you don’t want to fall behind. We offer both on-site training and development opportunities to ensure our employees are fully prepared and able to succeed in their current jobs and build a path for their career in the future.
2. Encourage achieving a work-life balance.
We’ve found our employees are happiest when they have the right balance. That could mean flexible schedules to attend doctor’s appointments during the day so they have more time after work to spend with their families, or being able to step away from work and get a massage, haircut or manicure. Or even go workout in our on-premises gym.
3. Take feedback seriously and make changes where appropriate.
We ask employees to take a monthly survey discussing how happy they are in their position and where improvements can be made. Once employees complete the surveys, we analyze the feedback then make changes/updates where needed.
4. Have fun.
We encourage a work hard play, hard environment. To balance out long days/nights of building our award-winning software, we offer annual events and parties where our employees can celebrate their success. It’s not uncommon to get impromptu emails from our CEO with an all-company challenge in our atrium (from paper airplanes to basketball shoot offs).
These are just a few examples how we’ve built a successful company culture with engaged employees.
So how can you get a job at Hyland? Well, you’re in luck!
